An Introduction to Guardian Behavioral Health Foundation’s Mental Health Services

May 7, 2013

Mental health services can be a crucial component of restoring balance to the life of someone who has been diagnosed with a mental illness. Unfortunately, these services are often inaccessible to many families due to financial hardship or a lack of understanding the mental illness itself. Here at Guardian Behavioral Health Foundation, we strive to build a bridge between individuals and families suffering from mental illness and the treatment and services that can help them. We are a non-profit organization that provides a number of support services to individuals, families, and the greater community.

Guardian’s Mental Health Services

Financial Assistance

Being diagnosed with a mental illness can be scary and overwhelming, and that’s before you consider the potential costs associated with treatment. We believe that everyone, regardless of their financial situation, deserves equal access to mental health services. That’s why we provide financial assistance to people diagnosed with mental illness, giving them and their family access to beneficial psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and treatment services.

Community Education

Most-common-mental-health-disorders-thumbnailAlthough the situation is improving, there has been a stigma attached with mental illness for a long time. This stigma leads to misconceptions, which ultimately can result in people not seeking the help they need. We want to work on eradicating that stigma, opening up mental health services to anyone who needs them, without fear that they will be negatively judged. To achieve this goal, we aim to educate communities about mental illness through outreach activities and public education.

We host regular events and seminars to raise the profile of mental illness and treatment options. These seminars can be informative for behavioral healthcare providers as well as the general public. This July we will hold a workshop on psychopharmacology, discussing moods, myths, medication, and mental health.

Community Link

Being diagnosed with a mental illness can bring about a range of emotions: fear, confusion, relief, frustration, helplessness, and more. You may feel like things are spiraling beyond your control, that your life is off-kilter. Mental health services can help restore balance to the life of an individual who has been diagnosed with a mental illness. This balance can come in the form of medication, therapy, financial help, or a supportive network of friends, family, and professionals.

We want to link a person to their immediate, basic needs – the first steps toward living with a mental illness may not always be clear, so our goal is to help people identify those steps and start moving forward. We work closely with mental health professionals, which enables us to provide tailored services to individuals and their families. These services can build a firm foundation for learning how to adjust to life with a mental illness.

Ultimately, we are here to help people improve and sustain their quality of life. Living with a mental illness may not be an easy task, but it is possible. As you take advantage of our various mental health services, you can learn strategies that may improve your daily life. From there, it is a matter of sustaining those improvements, and possibly re-structuring your life to achieve and maintain a positive long-term outlook.
